Two years ago, I was going to be in my best friend’s wedding and that was the kick in the pants I needed to get serious about losing weight and exercising regularly. I had been doing Zumba and yoga classes here and there, but knew I needed something serious to make it happen. So I started running. Now, let me tell you – I hated it! I had downloaded a cute little app and got myself new shoes, was all pumped up and then realized how much I hated it, especially the synthesized “music” that my app had selected for me. I was ready to quit and accept that I was meant to just be my weight when a friend recommended that I try another fitness tracker. So I decided to use the Nike app that was already pre-loaded on my iPod and pick up a Nike sensor at Best Buy (I didn’t realize they were less than $20!). Once I had that set up, I could use my own inspirational playlist of music, my friend even suggested some “anthem” type songs to pump me up while I ran. You know what? It made a difference! Suddenly I was enjoying the music and would not focus on the run itself as much. When the electronic voice would tell me that my time was up, I realized how much more quickly the time had passed! This combination of music and easy tracking made it easier to be accountable (it auto-posts to your Facebook if you connect them – then people start asking you how you’re doing and you want to impress them with how far you ran!) and easier to get out there because it is more fun! I recommend the Apple-Nike app/sensor combo for getting started, but Best Buy offers many fitness tracking devices that may better work for you – if you print this coupon, you can get a $5 Best Buy gift card when you purchase qualifying Health and Fitness products through February 22, 2014 at a Best Buy Mobile Specialty store.
Fast forward to the present and now I am training for one of those 10K obstacle course races. I am still adding exciting and inspirational music continually to my playlists to keep myself motivated. The trick now is, to find earbuds that can keep up with me! I have found that when I am on a longer run, or when I stop off at a park to climb over things (I told you, obstacle training!) that I get caught up in the wires of my earbuds, or they fall out (I swear my ears are a weird shape!). So I started researching alternatives to my earbuds and found that Best Buy has some really cool earbuds from the top selling earbud company, yurbuds. I read that an athlete who does triathlons and 24-hour marathons invented yurbuds after dealing with the frustration of wires and earbuds that won’t stay put. After perfecting a comfortable earbud set with their special TwistLock™ Technology and FlexSoft Comfort Fit, yurbuds took it to the next level with a new wireless set of earbuds!
These Bluetooth wireless earbuds are perfect for the active runner or biker who wants the freedom to move about, or if you are like my husband, biking during the winter, and needs to keep his phone concealed away from weather! For someone like me, who tends to get tangled in cords, the yurbud wireless earbud headphones are perfect since I can move with freedom and not worry about getting tangled! Not to mention I would love a pair of earbuds that were not constantly falling out!
I know that the yurbuds are definitely my wish list now – what about you? If you have been eyeing them up, use coupon code yurbuds20off online or show this coupon at your local Best Buy store to save 20% off on all yurbuds wireless earbud purchases through February 22, 2014!
My goal is to complete a 10K obstacle course race this summer, and I think my reward for completing it will be a pair of yurbuds. I did the reward thing when I first started running, but have been careful not to reward myself with treats (way too easy to do that and fall into a trap!) When I ran my first 5K, I got new running shoes, first obstacle course, I got a pedicure. For me, this is a great way to incent the behavior and continue enjoying something that was so hard to keep up with! Here’s hoping that 2014 is full of energizing and exciting music to keep me motivated to run!
