Trying to explain green living to a child can be interesting at times.  “Mom, why don’t we just throw that away (insert random kid name here) always throws her lunch stuff away at school?”  Me: “Because honey, we are trying to be green and do good things for the planet so that future generations will have a nice place to live.”  Miss Goose: “WHAT?!? The Earth is ending? What happened?!”  Now, generally, not all of our conversations about green living are so doom and gloom, but you get the gist.  They hear you say we need to do it to save the planet, save the animals, save the anything and they do not always grasp the bigger picture.  We were lucky enough to receive a great green living book for kids that features Mickey Mouse and his friends to help explain the green living process to our kiddos.

What did I think?

Go Green! A Family Guide to a Sustainable Lifestyle teaches children about the three “R’s” of green living (same ones we learned as kids: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!).  The book really encourages families to start changing their lifestyle in small ways to build up to living a more sustainable lifestyle in a way that can be achieved.  Throughout the whole book, you feel encouraged to keep trying and that no matter how small your green contribution is, it is a good one!

This green living book for kids and families is set up in an article style.  Looking for a green project?  Check out the Reuse section for gift ideas, green crafts and more.

I loved that there was a section on eating locally.  This gave us an easy conversation starter with our six-year-old about why we do not eat at the same restaurants as her schoolmates.  Mickey and Minnie definitely made that much easier for her to understand and now our little green crusader is sharing with her friends as to why they might want to start a change in their homes, too!
